BHYFC - Bergholt HeathBergholt Heath YFC – Results w/e 11th December

BHYFC U8s & U10s

The under 8s had no fixture this weekend

Our under 10s were away to St Edmunds. There they encountered a physical match , where several two footed challenges came their way which were not dealt with by the referee.

Although they narrowly lost ,the boys are to be congratulated on not retaliating and playing the game in the correct manner.

BHYFC U12s vs Lexden Saints Reds

On a bright crisp morning at the Poors field, Bergholt took on Lexden Saints Reds looking to avenge their largest defeat of the season.  In the previous game Bergholt had only 9 players available, of which 3 were already carrying injuries, whereas in this match the Bergholt manager had the full 13-man full strength squad to use.

During the first half of last week’s match Bergholt looked hesitant and allowed their opponents to get the upper hand.  This week in training and pre-match the manager and coach  stressed to the boys to up their desire to get to the ball first. They heeded these words of advice and looked much sharper in the tackle.  With this their confidence grew and the passing was much improved – even the odd back-heel was added for fun.  Although the best effort of the half fell to Lexden, which James did well to block, Bergholt started to play some really good football and despite not creating any clear-cut opportunities just shaded the half.  HT 0-0.

Second Half

The second half kicked off with both teams looking to get the opening goal.  It looked that first blood would go to Bergholt.  Theo’s trickery on the edge of the box saw the ball fall free to brother Oliver, but his shot went inches wide.  The same player had another opportunity to get on the scoresheet but once again saw his effort go wide.

The game continued to ebb and flow as Bergholt’s passing was some of the best they have produced.  Tommy was pulling the strings in midfield and supplying wingers Thomas and James with pinpoint accuracy.  Lexden, however, used their pace to counter-attack and it was from one of these that the first goal of the game was scored.  Against the run of play, a chase from the halfway line saw the Lexden striker get ahead of Aaron and slot the ball over James who had dived slightly too early.

A Goal Down

A goal down but knowing they were playing well, the Bergholt boys heads did not drop.  They continued to pass the ball through the Lexden team at will & from one of their attacks Tommy got into the box.  There he was upended for the second week in a row and a penalty awarded.  Once again Tommy put the ball on the spot, but unlike last week where he was successful.  This week his shot was saved by the ‘keeper and then Bergholt were unable to put in the rebound.

Lexden then dealt a killer blow when, with five minutes left on the clock, they broke down Bergholt’s left.  The winger cut in and slotted the ball into the far post for their second of the game.  FT 0-2.

A very entertaining game and supporters from both teams agreed that Bergholt deserved much more out of it given their excellent football.

Bergholt Heath player of the match: Thomas Haworth – perfect example today of passing, dribbling and tackling.
