Allotments Continue to Raise Money for Local Causes
The recent Allotment Committee meeting minutes for July 2018 cover a range of matters from business such as welcoming a new Committee Member, Stuart Meadows, to good news for local causes as their fundraising efforts continue.
Open Gardens 2018
This event saw well over 200 visitors coming to view the Allotments; together with the Gardeners Club the Open Gardens event raised well in excess of £4,000 for two great causes:
- Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation;
- Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.
The Allotments ongoing commitment to local causes, of course, is their charity table. Despite yields being down due to the weather, the table has already raised £1,900 so far this year; this very much puts last years total of over £4,000 in reach. Please do continue to support this table. Not only can you ensure you are getting fresh, zero-miles, produce, but you can also feel you have done your bit for local good causes.
The Allotments’ next public event will be attendance at the Village Fete on Saturday 1st September – why not pop along and have a chat about taking an allotment on yourself, as of the July meeting they had 8 plots available!
Bonfires & Water
The seemingly unremitting hot weather has left much of the village tinder dry; this applies as much to the allotments as elsewhere. In recognition of this increased fire risk, the Allotment Committee has cancelled the July & August bonfire dates and have had to put a ban on the use of naked flames and smoking until such time as there has been a substantial rainfall. Thye will review the situation of bonfires prior to the September date.
The committee expressed their gratitude to members who helped replace the water tanks, with enhanced ballcock valves to reduce wastage they also hope users will appreciate the paving slabs intended to reduce grass & soil getting into the tanks.
