Allotment Charity TableAllotments announce 2018 beneficiaries of charity table

At their recent meeting, the Allotment Committee discussed a range of issues including who should be the 2018 beneficiaries of sales from their charity table.  Last year they raised well over £4,000, over twice the previous year’s result, and would love to see even more this year.

The agreed beneficiaries for 2018 included:

  • The Tom Bowdidge Foundation,
  • Essex and Herts Air Ambulance,
  • 5T’s Club,
  • Heathlands Primary School, and
  • The Village Fete.

To help with their efforts the Allotmenteers have asked for donations of any used jam jars and 2-3″ plant pots.

Some updates picked up from their recent committee meeting…

Vacant Plots

At the time of the committee meeting, there were 7 vacant plots and a waiting list of just 1.  So, if you fancy becoming a little less dependant on the supermarkets why not take one on?  In allocating vacant plots, priority is given to those within the Parish Boundary although those in surrounding areas can still apply.  Visit their webpage to get details of how to apply.

Open Gardens & Village Fete

The allotmenteers are making plans for their involvement in this event on  1st July, 11.00 to 5.30 and coming up with ideas for activities on the site.  One of the members suggested an Ice Cream Van; it was also identified that volunteers will be needed for gate duty.

An early heads up for the Village Fete, it is possible that, together with the Gardeners Association, they will be running a sunflower competition so you might just want to try growing one ‘in case’.
